Melbourne 5th best city for students

Melbourne is the fifth best student city in the world, according to new rankings.
The Victorian capital saw off competition from places including Berlin, Boston and Tokyo, in the 2017 Students Cities Table, published by analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds.
Montreal took the top spot this year, pushing Paris into second place and London was third. Sydney was ranked 13th and Brisbane 20th.
The table ranks 125 cities on a number of measures, grouped into five categories – affordability, university rankings, employer activity, student mix and desirability.
The rankings show that in the wake of Brexit, UK cities held their place against their international rivals, with several making the top 50.
Edinburgh has moved up to 18th place from 33rd, Manchester rises 13 places to 23rd, while Glasgow is in 34th place, Coventry 39th and Nottingham 43rd.
“One of the main reasons for London’s increase is its 15-rank rise for affordability, reflecting the post-referendum weakening of the pound against the dollar,” the rankings note.
It said Melbourne had slipped from second place, noting the city’s fall was “largely due to lost ground in the affordability category. Yet, it remains without doubt a highly attractive destination for international students, and – home to one of the world’s most diverse student communities.”(YahooNews)
